If your hardware hasn’t been able to play “Fortnite” so far, then Xbox Cloud Gaming may now be the solution: you can now play the colorful shooter for free and on almost any device.
Microsoft is opening its doors: In cooperation with Epic Games, “Fortnite” is the first free-to-play title available on the cloud-based gaming service Xbox Cloud Gaming. So far, users have only accessed Xbox Game Pass games there. With Xbox Cloud Gaming, you can easily access “Fortnite” on Windows computers, Android and iOS devices via the web browser or the Xbox Game Pass app . All you need is a stable internet connection and a free Microsoft account – you don’t need a paid Game Pass Ultimate membership for this. The popular game even makes it back to the iPhone and iPad via the detour of the web browser. After a legal battle in August 2020, Apple banned the title from its App Store.
Xbox Cloud Gaming: How it works
The cloud gaming service makes it possible to play even graphically demanding games on almost any device. The highlight of the matter: games are not located locally on a user’s end device, but on Microsoft’s servers. These take over the calculation of the game content and then stream it to your computer, smartphone or tablet. Xbox cloud gaming titles include Forza Horizon 4, Halo: The Masterchief Collection, and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Unlike “Fortnite”, these games are not free games. A paid Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership is required to play them via the cloud. It costs 12.99 USD per month.
